What is a target audience?
A target audience is the intended audience or readership of a publication, advertisement, or other message. In marketing and advertising, it is a particular group of consumers within the predetermined target market, identified as the targets or recipients for a particular advertisement or message.Businesses that have a wide target market will focus on a specific target audience for certain messages to send.
Why are target audience useful in film?
Whenever people watch a film, they’re looking to find something. It could be something as direct as someone just going to the cinema to watch anything, because they want to. Or they may not even know they’re looking for something – they’re just hoping to find it.
Once you identify why your audience is watching your film, you can make some really good choices. You can decide what genre your going to use and what information you’re going to include. You can create and make a list of things you think they'll like incorporated in a film. You can do everything possible to thoroughly please them when they watch your film.
Film making takes time. And it’ll take even longer if you don’t know who your audience is. It’s no good assuming things about them. If you create content based around their assumptions, your audience will become lost.
What different genres appeal to different people?
I think that different people enjoy watching different genres for example, I think that younger audiences prefer to watch things such as animation and comedy as its quite child friendly and is fictionary and children and young people tend to have a better imagination and enjoy it more than an older person.
I think that older people prefer to watch films with more of a backing story and films with more meaning behind them. I think this because, I believe older people like to be shocked and intrigued as they've seen a lot in there life they want something different so something that interests them is appealing.
Furthermore, I believe that gender has an important part in different genres. Whereas makes tend to like more thriller and action movies as there more masculine and find dangerous and thrilling. Contrastingly, I believe females prefer films such a such as Teen dramas and Romcoms.
I also think that peoples interests also depend of what type of films they watch for example if you have a certain interest in sports or animals your more likely to watch films in that genre possibly to see how they relate to you or just to watch it because thats what you enjoy.
