Target audience is a particular group at which a product such as a film or advertisement is aimed.
In the film industry, recognising and appealing to your target audience is incredibly important as ultimately they will be the types of people who will be watching your film. Recognising your target audience early on in your pre-production is vital as they will determine the content of your film. For example a film opening that is aiming to appeal to teenager market will be different to an opening appealing to older people. Target audience need to be able to relate and engage with your film opening.
The target audience for my film is going to be a teenager that lives in rural area and is fully involved in todays younger generation. From using YouGov i found out that a male that watches attack the block is most likely to be between the ages of 20-25, live in London, enjoy social media, have 125 monthly spare etc. I chose to use attack the block as an example as this was the same genre as my film and I felt it was easier to relate to to establish my target audience.
Also from the BFI statistics research I done I found out that in 2013, the 15-24 age group made up the largest proportion of cinema admissions at 33%. From this information Ii found out that making a teen film will be most effective as I believe cinema is very popular for teens and the fact my film appeal to teenagers I believe this will make my film very popular.
My wider target audience would e people of an older age that would possibly go to watch my film in the cinema with there teenage children. Also older audiences that feel as if when they were a teenager they related to the film, this could have a sentimental feel to the person, possible ages 26-35.
I have created a facebook profile which I feel would most suit my target audience and if they were a person what they'd be like.
